RPC is a very comprehensive teacher training program. As such, our students and graduates are prepared for nearly any situation that might arise in a Pilates studio. It takes one year to complete a course. That said, often our students have full-time jobs or other time constraints, in which case they are welcome to take longer to finish their program.

Our course consists of in-person workshops, observation, practice teaching and doing the work - which we call “self practice” (but does not mean to practice alone, simply that you yourself are doing Pilates. More on that in the hours section.)
Workshops are called modules. We have nine modules or four week long intensives, 158 face-to-face hours. Those modules are: Foundations, Mat I, Mat II, Reformer I, II and III and (other) Apparatus I, II, and III.
The apparatus we cover in our course is: mat, ring, hand weights, reformer, cadillac, wunda chair, high chair, ladder barrel, spine corrector and ped-o-pul.

Anatomy is a very important part of our training. We cover anatomy, biomechanics, alignment, pathologies, contraindications and modifications in depth throughout your education. Anatomy and Physiology at a college level is required before testing out of our program. We also offer our very own course to meet this need - The Lab | Anatomy.
Pro Tip - you can take anatomy and physiology for free with Carnegie Mellon, online.
-
Students in our program complete homework throughout their coursework. From Foundations to practicum, students will complete 200 observation hours, 200 student teaching hours and 200 ‘self practice’ hours. Self practice means you are taking a live class or session taught by a comprehensively certified teacher. Streaming classes and practice by yourself, while valuable, will not count towards our self practice requirement.

Each student takes a series of what we call “level assessments” as part of a cumulative Practical Exam. The components include video submissions, in-person teaching, written case studies and a quiz. Students are eligible for their Level I, Level II and Level III assessments upon completion of their modules and hours and anatomy requirement. See the full updated Practicum syllabus here.
Pro Tip - we are here to help you every step of the way. Being engaged with our community is supportive to all students at all stages of their journey.

One of our core-values is community. We strive to set new standards in the Pilates world for building a thriving and supportive inclusive and diverse community with those who share our purpose and values. As such, we have our very own digital community where we gather, share, inspire, learn-from and support each other. Once a part of our community, you are forever a part of our community. Our mission is to transform the industry and this is one of the ways we’re accomplishing that. We believe that everyone has a seat at our table. We believe that you can sit with us.

A cost you should consider as part of your entire education is for your self-practice hours. You’ll be taking classes and sessions with comprehensively certified teachers, 200 of them, so be sure to add this to your budget. Host studios are paying to have our training in their space, they are not benefiting financially from hosting our course. They host us in hopes of hiring teachers out of the program, so their reward is longer term. One way you can support your host is to take classes and sessions there but also don’t feel obligated to do so if you have different plans for your practice hours.
Pro Tip - often studios need front desk staff and typically offer free classes to their staff - it’s worth asking about if this is a financial burden for you. You can also practice and get hours working with other RPC students.

All of our graduates (and many of our current students) are working in the Pilates industry. From very large national gyms to local boutique studios, requests for our graduates come in nearly every day. The Pilates world needs good teachers and the hiring managers are looking to RPC grads and students to help fill those spots. There are more requests than graduates, we have an abundance of interview opportunities waiting for those who finish our program.
Pro Tip - your host is hoping to hire you when you’re done, if you’d like to work at your host studio, approach your time in their studio as a very long first interview.

It’s not uncommon at all for students to bridge into our program from other teacher training experiences. Comprehensively certified teachers from courses covering Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, Magic Circle and Ped-o-pul will not have to complete practice hours with us.
